Positive Cycology Ride is a fundraiser bike ride to support The Art Room, which is a nonprofit art studio for people with mental health issues. The Art Room's mission is to encourage healing and recovery through expressive art experiences for people who face mental health challenges. They aim to promote art as a means of coping and as a method for creating greater resilience in managing emotions and stress. The Art Room is mostly volunteer based, and has enrolled 275 people in the Denton area as members over four years of operation, and the numbers are growing.

The Art Room's Positive Cycology Ride fundraiser aims to support The Art Room in its mission, as well as promote the physical and mental health benefits of riding a bike. Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, the organization wants to bring awareness to The Art Room's mission, as well as to other ways that support one's mental health, such as physical exercise. Organizers hope to engage the community in a fun bike riding activity that is accessible to everyone, both family-friendly and challenging. After the ride, there will be a celebration at East Side Denton, 117 E. Oak St., with local food trucks.

Cost: $30 registration fee (Kids 12 and under ride free)

Ride options:

  • 6-mile leisure/family ride begins at 9:30 AM

  • 26-mile experience ride begins at 8:30 AM

Where: Both ride options begin at the Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC) at 604 E Hickory Street.

Stick around after the ride at East Side (117 E Oak Street). Riders will receive one free beverage token to use at East Side.

All proceeds for this event will benefit The Art Room.
