City of Denton Parks and Recreation staff are offering a bike safety class. Topics will include proper bicycle and helmet fit, rules of the road, bicycle handling practice in a safe space, then an on-road ride on neighborhood streets to practice what you learned.

Downtown All-Way Crossing - Public Update Meeting

Register for virtual public update meeting

This project will provide permanent diagonal crosswalks and pedestrian signal improvements at all four (4) intersections around the Downtown Courthouse on the Square, providing all-way pedestrian only phased crossings.

The City will host the virtual community meeting providing residents, property and business owners the opportunity to: 

  • Receive an overview of the All-Way Crossings/Downtown Pedestrian Safety Improvements CIP; 

  • Receive an update on project scope, timeline, and expected impacts during construction

  • Introduce the City’s contractor; and

  • Field questions from community members.

Staff from the City of Denton, the City’s Contractor, Floyd Smith Concrete, Inc., and Engineering firm, Kimley Horn & Associates, Inc. will be available to discuss the project and answer questions from participants in the virtual meeting.

Parkway On-Street Path - Virtual Public Input Meeting

Register for virtual public input meeting

This project will reconfigure Parkway Street to include an on-street trail between Carroll Boulevard and Congress Street. The Parkway on Street Trail Project will repurpose the northern lane into a dedicated on-street trail, create a center left turn lane, and improve the pedestrian crossings at the intersections. Staff from the City of Denton will be available to discuss the project and answer questions from those participating in the virtual meeting.

Quarterly Litter Cleanup

Tired of seeing litter along the DCTA rail trail? Help do something about it! Bike Denton has a 2-mile Adopt-A-Spot along the trail and hosts quarterly litter cleanups to keep it looking snazzy.

Registration

You must register with us and submit a liability waiver to Keep Denton Beautiful (KDB) in order to participate: Registration and liability form

Only registered participants will receive full event information and updates.

Registration deadline: Register by 12:00 PM on Friday, November 11th.

Schedule

To receive full schedule details, complete the registration form.

We will clean from about 9 AM - 11 AM unless we clean quickly and end earlier. Following the cleanup, we will travel to downtown to throw the bags away in dumpsters.

There will be an optional brunch downtown after the cleanup. Please bring money if you’d like to join us and purchase something.

What to Bring

  • Water

  • Sturdy close-toed shoes

  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, as needed

  • Optional: Your bicycle! While not mandatory, your bicycle will allow you to cover more ground during the cleanup.

  • Optional: A bicycle trailer, if you own one, to transport full trash and recycling bags.

  • Cash or a credit card if you plan to join us for brunch afterwards. Location TBD.

Denton Bike Month Proclamation

Show your support for a bike-friendly Denton and celebrate the beginning of Bike Month by attending the Bike Month Proclamation at the beginning of the Denton City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 3rd starting at 6:30 PM.

Denton City Council meetings begin at 6:30 PM. Proclamations are read shortly after the meeting begins. You can leave after the Bike Month proclamation has been read or stick around to listen to more of the meeting.

The map below shows the location of bike racks at Denton City Hall. To access the City Council chambers, travel through the courtyard towards the back-right corner. Once in the hallway of the building, travel to the right to find the entrance of the City Council chambers.

Bike with the Mayor

Update, 5/22 at 9:00 AM: The rain is clear for the ride until at least 12 PM, so we’re moving forward with the event! Check our Twitter page or Facebook event page for further updates.

Join Bike Denton and Mayor Hudspeth on a tour of the various types of bicycle infrastructure that Denton has built so far. Whether you ride or not, join us 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM at Carl Young Park, where you can purchase lunch from the Street Eats Catering food truck.

The full ride will be 9 miles, but there will also be a 3 mile option. Route map below.

9 Mile Ride Option

Meet at Carl Young Sr. Park (327 S Wood St). The 9-mile route begins and ends here.

Arrive early for pre-ride bike checks (air pressure, etc.) courtesy of Velo Republic bike shop.

10:00 - 10:10 AM Safety briefing

10:10 - 10:40 AM Ride to Frios Gourmet Pops to meet up with 3-mile group

10:45 - 11:15 AM Ride loop around North Lakes Park with 3-mile group

11:15 - 11:20 AM Drop off 3-mile group at Frios

11:20 - 12:00 PM Ride back to Carl Young Sr. Park

12:00 - 1:00 PM Street Eats Catering food truck (Bring money!)

3 Mile Ride Option

Meet at Frios Gourmet Pops (1640 W University Dr) by 10:30 AM. The three-mile route begins and ends here.

Arrive early for pre-ride bike checks (air pressure, etc.) courtesy of Velo Republic bike shop.

10:30 AM Meet at Frios

10:30 - 10:40 AM 9-mile group arrives to Frios.

10:40 - 10:45 AM Safety briefing

10:45 - 11:15 AM 3-mile loop to north side of North Lakes Park and back.

11:15 AM Arrive back to Frios

Optional: Drive to Carl Young Park to join the 9-mile group for lunch 12 PM - 1 PM. The Street Eats Catering food truck will be there for you to purchase lunch.
