Denton Hires New Sr. Transportation Planner - Bike, Pedestrian, ADA

Denton has hired a new Sr. Transportation Planner, who is expected to begin in mid-July, according to a city staff in today’s Mobility Committee meeting. Information about the hire, including their name, will be shared once they begin their duties. This position replaces what was formerly the Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator position and formally adds ADA to the list of responsibilities.

The City has worked to fill this new position since November, 2020. The position was created following the departure of Denton’s previous Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator, Marc Oliphant. It is unclear how the Planner position will differ from the Coordinator position, but the salary bump suggests an increased emphasis on mobility and access for people traveling outside of an automobile.

Denton hired its first Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator in 2015, three years after the adoption of its first Bike Plan. The purpose of this position was to ensure the implementation of the goals and routes laid out in the 2012 Bike Plan.

Example of goals from Denton’s 2012 Bike Plan.

Denton is currently updating the bicycle component of the Mobility Plan. In addition, a new pedestrian component and ADA Transition Plan are being developed. The new Sr. Transportation Planner will be involved with the implementation of all three plans.

We’re excited to meet the new hire and will let you know when more information has been released.
