Parkway On-Street Path Public Meeting, January 12
The City of Denton will host a virtual public input meeting on Thursday, January 12 at 6 PM for the Parkway On-Street Trail Project.

The project will repurpose the northern lane of Parkway Street between Carroll Boulevard and Congress Street as a two-way, on-street path to be shared by people bicycling, walking and rolling. The project will also include improved pedestrian crossings and ADA features at intersections along the corridor.
A project to add bicycle facilities on Parkway Street has been in the works since at least 2019. Due to Parkway’s low traffic volumes, the city requested the removal of the traffic lights on Parkway at Elm Street and Locust Street and began movement to repurpose one of the four underutilized lanes for bicycle facilities.
Denton’s previous Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator, Nathan George, identified Parkway as a street with a high Pedestrian Potential Index (PPI) based on a number of factors. However, sidewalks are missing along most of the corridor.
To implement a pedestrian accommodation more quickly, staff are recommending the eight-to-nine foot shared walking and cycling space as an interim solution. The on-street path will feature a two-foot painted buffer with K-71 bollard vertical separation, like W Hickory Street.
