Pecan Creek Trail Master Plan is in Development

Denton staff are progressing on plans for a future trail along Pecan Creek, reaching from the Downtown Denton Transit Center to Lake Lewisville to the east. Staff held a public input meeting on August 30th to provide updates. A recording of the meeting is available on YouTube.

Trail planning is still in the early stages. Staff worked over the summer to develop proposed routing for the trail, though routing could change if the City is unable to obtain all of the desired land.

City staff and project consultants will refine details like surface type and other amenities later in the process, though staff emphasized plans to preserve a natural feel along the trail corridor. Flood-prone sections of the trail are likely to be paved, according to staff. A paved trail surface is also a requirement to be awarded additional government funding.

There is currently no dedicated funding for the construction of the trail. Cities typically seek funding for projects once a master plan is finalized. The master plan for the Pecan Creek Trail is currently in development.

City staff plan to schedule an in-person public meeting later in September. Sign up for project updates or browse project maps, presentations and other information on the Pecan Creek Trail Master Plan page on Discuss Denton.
